Sony Ericsson Mobiles

Established in 2001 by the Sony Corporation and, Ericsson, a Swedish Telecommunications Company, Sony Ericsson has been consistently developing mobile technology for the benefit of the modern mobile user.

Company History

The company concentrates its efforts in merging music, camera, and business features in their mobile products. In 2005, the Walkman brand W Series was introduced as the first of the “music” Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones. Next is the Cyber-shot phones which boast of a flash and auto-focus. These are obviously testaments to the powerful point and shoot camera series which Sony also manufactures along with the Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones.

Employing almost 8,000 employees worldwide, Sony Ericsson is the fastest-growing mobile phone manufacturer with a 43% annual growth rate. It has swiftly left behind its more established competitors in recent years. The partnership between the established Japanese electronics mogul and the Swedish telecommunications establishment proved to be a profitable one indeed as the combined institution became the topmost profit maker in the mobile phone industry in 2007.

Mobile Technology

Sony Ericsson mobile phones are marketed under four categories:

Walkman series: Introduced in 2005, this line introduced the concept of music-oriented handsets, posing serious competition for the upcoming portable music market at the time. The phones are marked with a stylized “W” logo on the handset.

Cyber-shot series: This line came in 2006 and featured high-resolution cameras (up to 5 megapixels) with flash, autofocus, and other advanced features. The phones use the same technology as Sony’s popular Cyber-shot digital cameras.

UIQ series: This series includes smartphones and PDA-like handsets. Identifying features include touch screens, full QWERT keypads, and the Symbian operationg system. This includes the P, M, and G series phones.

Xperia series: Basically an upgrade over the UIQ series, Xperia phones carry advanced smartphone features such as all-around connectivity and the Windows Mobile operating system.
