Telstra Mobile is the telecommunications and media subsidiary of Telstra Corporation. It is considered to be the largest provider of local and long distance phone services, dial-up Internet services, mobile services, DSL Internet access, cable Internet access, and wireless Internet services all across Australia. It is the undisputed leader in the telecommunications industry in Australia. The Telstra Mobile headquarters is located in Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria.
Before it gained its superior status in the telecommunications industry in Australia, Telstra used to be called Telecom Australia. Due to the fact that Telecom sounded a bit too ordinary for a company with extraordinary visions, the management decided to change the company's name to Telstra. The company was only privatised in the year 2006.

Telstra Mobile operates the largest CDMA, GSM, and 3G networks in the country. A secondary network called Next G, which is considered to be the largest in Australia and the fastest in the world, is also being operated by Telstra Mobile. Next G offers a coverage that is over a hundred times greater than any other provider in Australia. The mobile phone brands offered by Telstra Mobile include Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Nokia, Motorola, Palm Treo, and of course, Telstra. Telstra Mobile offers both prepaid and postpaid mobile services. The mobile phone service features offered by Telstra Mobile include short message services (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS), premium SMS, Big Pond services, Hiptop Slide services, Blackberry solutions, Good wireless email, Sensis 1234 premium voice services, pre-paid mobile broadband services, international roaming, and pre-paid roaming.
Telstra Mobile is also considered to be the only mobile network provider in Australia that supports the Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) digital mobile technology. The EDGE technology allows the increase of data transmission rates and the improvement of data transmission reliability. It was initially introduced by Cingular in 2003.
