Virgin Mobile Changing Pre-Paid System

Wednesday November 12, 2008

Starting in mid-October, Virgin Mobile began updating its system for handling different pre-paid credit deals for mobiles. In the past, Virgin Mobile plans for pre-paid credit worked on a procedural basis. That meant that previous credit and its special rates and expiry dates would need to be used before the next kind of credit and its rates and expiry dates kicked in. Now, Virgin Mobile pre-paid credit users will find that their call rates and expiry change for the entirety of their credit from the point that they top-up their account.

This change in how Virgin Mobile handles its pre-paid mobile phone plans can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. If you are topping up with a larger amount of credit than you previously used, you could benefit from better rates and expiry dates on your remaining credit from your prior top-up. However, if you top-up with a lower amount, then you could be disadvantaged by less favourable rates on your previously larger top-up.
