Mobiles for the kids
Monday April 14, 2008
Mobiles are becoming an integral part of socialising for more than just teenagers and adults. More and more, parents want children to have their own mobiles, if only just to call when they need a lift and for emergencies. The preponderance of capped call plans for mobiles makes the choice of giving a child their own mobile phone less of a concern than it once was. As many mobile phone plans also offer discounted rates for calls between mobiles on the same network, a family in which every member has mobiles on the same network will possibly be the norm in the near future.
Mobile phone services designed to protect the user from making calls to certain people while drunk and to block calls from some people could also be applied to protect children by restricting access. Given the affordable mobile phone plans available and the possibility for extra protection, there is little reason that children should go without mobiles.
