Mobiles of the future

Mobiles on the 3G network may be old news in the mid-term future with rumours circulating of what 4G networks will be capable of. It has been difficult to rely on any standardised speed from 3G providers as minimums were never firmly established, so it will be interesting to see what happens with 4G mobiles. Considering Telstra has generally shown unwillingness to upgrade facilities in the past, will the relatively recent introduction of 3G stop them from again improving the connectivity and capabilities of modern mobiles?
