Dating on mobiles

16 May 2008

Mobiles can play a vital role in dating and relationships, but there are many opinions as to what is appropriate. If you aren't sure what you should and shouldn't do using mobiles in a relationship, then read on for some pointers.

Can I break up with a mobile phone call?

Of course you can, but you possibly shouldn't depending on the circumstances. If your soon-to-be-ex partner is interstate or overseas, then you may have no choice but break up over mobiles. Otherwise, unless your partner is potentially violent, you should probably do it in person.

HINT: A text message break up is lame. It's like a Dear John/Jane letter with less effort. You'll still get a call, you'll still have to talk about it. Not only that, you'll also come off as scum immediately for trying to make a break up impersonal.

Can I organise a date with a text message?

That depends on how close you are. If it's the first date, you should call to sort things out. It may seem less intimidating to text details, but it also sends a bad signal about your willingness to communicate. Once you are in an established relationship it's quite normal to organise events without consulting one another, but at the beginning you should probably talk as much as possible.

Should I use dating services on mobiles?

Absolutely! Going to a club or bar just gives you the option of the same sort of people week in, week out. Dating services on mobiles can possibly help you find hundreds of possible match-ups that you may have otherwise never found. They also give you an opportunity to know someone before dating them, plus there's the added convenience of being able to access the dating service anywhere and anytime.
