Etiquette for Mobiles
20 June 2008
Everyone uses mobiles these days. For most businesses, people cannot afford to be without their mobiles. Unfortunately, poor mobile phone etiquette is becoming increasingly common.
Bad manners when it comes to using mobiles should be avoided, especially with personal calls. Nobody else on the train wants to know how your trip to the doctor went or listen to you arguing over the phone.
Here are some hints to help you make sure you have good mobile phone etiquette:
- Avoid taking personal calls during business meetings.
- If you're on your mobile phone, go to a quiet area and avoid other people while talking.
- If you must talk while others are around, talk in a low voice.
- Have a sensible ringtone during work hours - you don't want to disturb your colleagues.
- Never drive and talk on a hand held mobile phone - use hands free.
- Try to keep conversations brief in work hours - you're not being paid to sit around and chat to your friends.
- Send text messages where possible.
