How does the iPhone 3G compare to other mobiles?

26 June 2008

With the Apple iPhone 3G coming on July 11, many mobile phone companies will be working on mobiles that challenge the iPhone 3G. If you haven't caught the iPhone bug yet, or are sure if you'll be able to afford one (Apple hasn't released prices on the plans yet), there are other mobiles on the market that might suit you better.

Consider what features you want in your mobiles and think about what the iPhone 3G doesn't come with.

Multimedia messaging (or MMS) - Nearly all mobiles in Australia have this feature. You won't be able to send pictures directly, but you will be able to email them!

Copy and paste - With the email capabilities of the iPhone, it's a shame you won't be able to copy and paste. However, you probably won't even notice that this feature is missing.

Video recording - Again, nearly all mobiles in Australia have some sort of video recording available. Unfortunately no one seems to be able to confirm why this feature hasn't been included.

Voice command - Voice command is a handy feature. However the iPhone does come with a touch screen, so this is sort of a compromise.

Bluetooth flexibility - You can use a headset with the iPhone 3G, but it appears that this is the limit of the Bluetooth capabilities.

A high resolution camera - the iPhone 3G has a 2 mega pixel camera. Many mobiles in Australia have cameras with a higher resolution. But if you're not constantly taking photos, you probably won't be too concerned about this feature.
