Protecting your privacy on mobiles
17 September 2008
Mobiles are a very portable device which makes them easy to carry, but also easy to steal. It is quite startling, then, to find so many people keeping sensitive information on their mobiles even after they have had many opportunities to transfer that information to a safer location.
While some private information that people keep on their mobiles, such as phone numbers, is somewhat unavoidable to keep on a mobile phone, there are other things that should be transferred to a secure computer as soon as possible or else deleted. Embarrassing photos, for instance, should not remain on your mobile phone if you wish to avoid them being found out by another party.
When it comes to business mobiles and especially 3G business solutions like smartphones that can store important documents, it is absolutely vital that you are careful both with how you use your mobile phone as well as frequently transferring sensitive information to secure systems. You should also endeavour to make business mobiles physically secure and not keep them in pockets that they could easily fall out of. Some mobile phone brands produce more secure phones than others, so your business may want to look into this for future mobile phone purchases.
