Connecting with your friends
22 September 2008
Mobiles can be costly if you find yourself constantly talking with your friends on them, but you should keep in mind that it will be costly for your friends also. Many mobile phone plans, such as some Virgin mobile plans and 3 Mobile plans, include an amount of extra credit to cover calls to others on the same network or else discount the rate of calls to other phones on the network. This means that you could potentially save yourself and your friends money by suggesting that you purchase new mobiles together.
As long as you all have similar needs, the same network is likely to be able to provide a good value deal for you and all of your friends. If someone needs budget mobile phone plans, though, they may need to look at other networks as well, as mobile phone networks tend to specialise in a particular price range while offering decent deals at the other price ranges. Be sure that the friend-to-friend credit or discounts apply to a variety of communication types. If the plan only offers a good deal on text messages or only voice calls, then you may find that your increased usage of one will result in increased usage of the other, which could end up costing you more than before.
