Google to produce its own iPhone?
Wednesday December 23, 2009
Google has now confirmed that it is developing its own version of the hugely popular iPhone to compete in the mobiles market after a member of the product management team blogged about the in-house testing of the new product.
The massive brand confirmed on Saturday morning through a blog post that it has developed its own iPhone that is currently being tested out by Google employees, although further details were scarce.
The mobiles will be produced by HTC and work on Google's mobile operating system, Android, as outlined by Google employee's tweets on the development with the plan being that HTC will sell the mobiles through established systems Verizon and T-Mobile.
Apparently the employee testing is occurring worldwide with Google Australia confirming that there are a number of local employees that are part of the testing focus group.
What this means for the future of the Australian mobiles industry, in fact the international mobiles market, is yet to be determined but many industry experts are saying that this will undoubtedly have a massive impact.
Vice president of product management Mario Quroz Blog Post:
"At Google, we are constantly experimenting with new products and technologies, and often ask employees to test these products for quick feedback and suggestions for improvements in a process we call dogfooding (from "eating your own dogfood"). Well this holiday season, we are taking dogfooding to a new level.
We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.
Unfortunately, because dogfooding is a process exclusively for Google employees, we cannot share specific product details. We hope to share more after our dogfood diet."
